Exodus 28:23

Two rings of gold. These were for fastening the breastplate to the ephod. There were to be four rings, one in each upper corner (verse 23) and one behind each lower corner (verse 26). A cord of twisted gold wire was passed through each of the two upper rings and fastened to the “two ouches,” or filigree settings, of the shoulder stones (verse 25; cf. verses 11-14). Through each of the two lower rings a blue lace or ribbon was passed, which was tied to two rings placed for that purpose on the front of the ephod, “above the curious girdle” (verses 26-28). Thus secured at its four corners the breastplate could not be “loosed from the ephod” (verse 28).
