Again the next day. [The First Disciples, John 1:35-51. See Early Ministry and Baptism to First Passover; The Ministry of Our Lord] See on v. 19; cf. vs. 29, 43. John often uses the word “again” more as a connective, by way of relating a new section of his narrative to the preceding section, rather than in a repetitive sense (see chs. 8:12,21; 10:7, 19; 21:1; etc.).

Two of his disciples. One of these was Andrew (v. 40). John’s reticence throughout his Gospel in referring to himself in connection with incidents in which he was a participant strongly implies that he was the other of the two disciples (cf. chs. 20:2; 21:20-25; see DA 138).
