Theological / Devotional

All the people. The term “people” is employed in this narrative for the followers of David (see chs. 15:17, 23, 24, 30; 16:14; 17:2, 3, 16, 22; 18:1-4, 6, 16; 19:2, 3, 8, 9). For the followers of Absalom the term “Israel” has been used (see chs. 16:15; 17:15; 18:16, 17).

Was come over. Barzillai seems to have crossed the river with David before turning homeward.
